Saving One Spadina’s Amazing Ceiling
Katie Faulkner explains how her firm rescued the University of Toronto’s new architecture school from losing its magnificent ceiling.
The most awe-inspiring feature of the new John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design addition is found overhead. On the third level of the new build is a massive open space defined by a ceiling that undulates like giant snow drifts. Yet, it wasn’t always certain this central feature would get realized. Here’s my story on how Faulkner and her team overcame the obstacles with a visit to Home Depot.
