From the greatest furniture event on Earth, the 10 most breathtaking displays and visual wonders of 2017.
As Editor of Azure, I took many sleepless trips to Milan for Salone del Mobile, and every year the massive event knocked my socks off. But 2017 stood out more than most. Overall, there was a burst of creative expression that seemed liberated of any collective likemindedness. Some of the most enchanting displays had nothing to do with selling furniture at all, including a curious installation by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, where 300 pairs of skinny jeans were tethered across an open-air courtyard (pictured). Meanwhile, Lee Broom’s all-white carousel inside a cavernous garage near Milan’s Central Station, was pure joy.
